A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, April 7th from 6 until 9 p.m. The public is invited. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 until 5, or by appointment.
Andrée Carter has for the last ten years consistently evolved her signature style of abstract painting - heavily textured surfaces combined with the irresistible power of color. Her latest series of paintings, Intersections, moves toward the reduction of painted shapes and lines and more reliance on paint and gravity to create cascading layers of color and textured rivers crisscrossing the canvas surfaces. Carter’s new body of work is assertive, drawing upon the language of abstraction by Pollock, de Kooning and Mitchell, adding her unique voice to the vocabulary of contemporary abstract art. Carter’s new works are bold complex paintings, purifying her commitment to color and texture.
Andrée Carter is a native of New Orleans, LA, where she received her B.A. in painting from Loyola University, New Orleans, and her M.F.A in painting from the University of New Orleans. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Louisiana, Washington, Oregon and California. Her work can be found in public and private collections throughout the country, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA, the Hotel Max, Seattle, WA, and the Hyatt Hotel, New Orleans, LA. Carter is an instructor at the Art Institute of Seattle, Pratt Fine Arts Center and Kirkland Art Center. Andrée Carter has lived and worked in Seattle since 2000. This is her first exhibition with Heriard-Cimino Gallery. |
