Press Release
NEW ORLEANS---Heriard-Cimino Gallery presents Automatics by Anastasia Pelias, in Gallery 2. An Opening Reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, December 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on view December 5th, 2009 through January 2nd, 2010. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 to 5, or by appointment.
Anastasia Pelias' recent paintings are composed of elegant, relaxed organic lines and loops that meander and weave across radiant monochromatic fields. These fluid geometries play with the boundaries of the canvas, creating a compelling tension between the line and edge of the surface. Pelias paints with bold, concentrated colors which complement and coerce, creating harmonic and electrifying relationships. The paintings embody iconographic, lyrical signs which allow the viewer to embrace each piece with both familiarity and freshness.
Anastasia Pelias' series, the Automatics, reveal the artist's authentic relationship to her own primary experience. This is manifest in the infinite diversity of physical and emotional energy underlying her choice of expressive line and color.
Anastasia Pelias is a native of New Orleans, receiving her B.F.A. from Newcomb College, Tulane University and her M.F.A. from the University of New Orleans. Pelias has been exhibiting her work in solo and group exhibitions as well as site-specific installations throughout the country since 1986. The artist resides and works in New Orleans, LA. This is her third solo exhibition at Heriard-Cimino Gallery.
